Hundreds of local families supported during lockdown
It has been a busy year for Willow Tree Baby Bank. Our referrals stood at 400 at the beginning of the first lockdown and we now stand at over 630. This was probably because we were one of the few Baby banks to remain open. We went from assisting mainly local families to working with Hestia an organisation who help the victims of trafficking, domestic abuse and modern slavery. We were reaching families as far away as Croydon, Twickenham and Hounslow.
Simultaneously when lockdown was lifted last Summer we were contacted by women desperate to donate all the baby items they had cleared out. The result was in August we had a donation day that basically filled one third of the back Hall. At the same time as sorting these we gave out a record 22 referrals in one week.
This lockdown has been the longest and demand has been steady.
We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who have supported us with financial donations, their time in sorting collections and for those who've donated items to Willow Tree. This makes a big impact on how Willow Tree supports families.
During this year we've has also received a brand new double buggy from Cossato, a consignment of nappies and baby toiletries from Sainsbury’s Chadwell Heath and 3 baby boxes from the British Baby Box Company. Jo Jo Maman Bebe have also included us in their campaign of recycling baby clothes called from one Mother to Another.
The Willow Tree is a project to support local families in need by providing clothing & equipment for 0-2 year olds, which has been donated by many of the wonderful friends & contacts we have. Families are referred by agencies that we are partnering with (healthcare, social services, schools, other charities etc) Find out more at the Willow Tree website and keep up to date with what donations we need on our Facebook page.
Plans to redevelop our buildings
Chadwell Heath Baptist Church is making plans to update the current church site.
Thank you to everyone who submitted their comments and feedback, and contributed to our public consultation that we held in August 2020. The consultation period has now finished but you can still view the plans online, listen to the webinar and read the FAQs.
