We thank God for He is our provider – the giver of all things. Let us think of just but a few of the many things He has provided; jobs, family, friends, care/protection, Fellowship, skills, and answered prayers. Let us thank God, for as our Father, He provides the best for us, His children, and at the right time. In Matthew 6: 31-32 Jesus tells us not to worry about what we will eat or drink, what we will put on for we are His most treasured of all the creation.

In thinking of Thanksgiving Offering, I am reminded of Abraham. In Genesis 22 God asked him to sacrifice to Him his only son whom He had promised and given Abraham in a very miraculous way in his Old age. Had it been me, I would have asked God “ why give me a child I did not expect only to ask him back? Really God? Are you serious?...”

Abraham, a man of great faith, in obedience, did what God had asked of him. In return, God honoured his obedience and provided a sheep for him to sacrifice instead and went back home with his son and what God had asked of him, in a way that no doubt must have left him happy and grateful to God.

So, I ask myself, what is God asking me to give as a thanksgiving offering this Sunday? in the current tough times of uncertainty about job situation, job losses, reduced income? What will it cost me?

I am reminded again of Abraham’s story and I ask myself, am I ready to offer what God asks of me through His Holy Spirit as my thanksgiving offering for all he has provided and done for me? and remembering that ultimately, everything I have belongs to Him, am I conscious that in giving the offering I giving back what already belongs to Him!

May the Lord Almighty, our Jehovah Jire bless you for your faithful, generous and sacrificial thanksgiving offering this Sunday.

Psalm 50:23
those who sacrifice thank-offerings honour me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.’

Psalm 116:12-17
What shall I return to the LORD for all his goodness to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. I will fulfil my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants. Truly I am your servant, LORD; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains. I will sacrifice a thank-offering to you and call on the name of the LORD.

Jesus, what can I give, what can I bring
To so faithful a Friend to so loving a King
Saviour, what can be said, what can be sung
As a praise of Your name for the things You have done

Oh, my words could not tell not even in part
Of the debt of love that is owed by this thankful heart

I will offer up my life
