Psalm 57The Holy Spirit gives us purpose to glorify God

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfil his purpose for me. (Psalm 57:1-2)

Difficult situations can at times make us lose our purpose in life. When clouded with negative news, doubts and uncertainty, we can lose our focus and orientation in life. We get lost in the minds and spirit. This can make us feel useless, unworthy and frustrated.

The Bible tells us that …those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5b). It is good to spend time in prayer and mediation on the Word of God so that the Holy Spirit will reveal His purposes for our lives in the current situation. Our desires should be in line with what the Holy Spirit desires. This way we can have the fullness of life and peace with God when we allow the Holy Spirit to freely live and work in our lives.

When David went hiding in a cave running away from Saul who was looking to kill him, he did not despair but prayed and cried out to God:
Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfil his purpose for me. (Psalm 57:1-2)

Joseph remained steadfast for he knew God had a purpose for his life despite all the challenges he faced after being sold as a slave to Egypt by his brothers. When they came to beg his forgiveness, fearing he was going to take revenge on them, he was not bitter but said to them: “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive” (Genesis 50:20).

We can be sure that even in the current difficult season, God is at work to bring out His purposes for us as His children and His Church. In the end, He will be glorified for He is the Lord and the supreme ruler and the creator of everything.

Prayer
Father we thank you for the Holy Spirit who leads us giving us direction and guidance. Help us to set our minds on the Holy Spirit so we can know what you desire of us during this time and after, for the glory of you name. Amen
